Offering is original family ownership’s mid-1950’s, vintage Statton “Trutype Americana” (American Tradition / Colonial Style) solid cherry wood matching set - dresser and mirror. Purchased in 1954 by Seller’s parents at W. & J. Sloane (NYC), specific descriptions are as follows:
DRESSER - VINTAGE CONDITION: GOOD+. The dresser features clean & intact brass hardware (No. “A277”), three (3) smaller drawers over six (6) larger drawers with dovetail construction and ogee bracket feet. The dresser’s solid cherry construction remains tight and sturdy, stands upright with no wobbling or instability. The backside wood piece is in excellent condition with no splits, stains, warping or markings. The dresser does show wear and distressing commensurate with age and use. The dresser’s top section has noticeable, visible wear with scratches and marks. The dresser’s front and several fronts of drawers also show surface wear with several marks. The dresser’s two (2) end sections are in VG+ condition. The interiors of all nine (9) drawers are in EX condition. Overall, the dresser has retained much of its original, deep & rich, attractive cherry finish. It continues to have a rich gloss when a quality furniture polish is applied. MIRROR – VINTAGE CONDITION: EXCELLENT. Solid cherry wood, hanging wall mirror No. 2052 over dresser with no noticeable wear. Purchased in 1954 by Seller’s parents at W. & J. Sloane (NYC), the cherry wood mirror has retained all its original, deep & rich, attractive finish, showing no fading, discoloration, cracks, chipping or stain marks on its rich cherry wood surface. Its construction remains tight and sturdy in its original, unaltered condition. The mirror glass remains very bright and clean with no fogging. The backside wood piece is in excellent condition with no splits, stains, fractures, cracking or warping. The mirror has its original two (2) backside wire hanging brackets. Philo and Helen Statton established the company in 1926 with a line of bedroom furniture. Statton Furniture was a staple in Fine Furniture stores across the country. From 1926 to 2008, Statton Furniture Company remained a family company, owned and managed by generations of the Statton name.
