Selling my 2018 Hyundai Tucson SEL Plus (FWD), 90,287 miles, Burgundy exterior. Read the whole post — this is a mechanic's opportunity, not a daily driver as-is.

The issue: The camshaft phaser pin is broken. Dealer quoted me $6,000 to fix it because replacing the phaser pin means replacing the full timing component set. I'm choosing to lose money on it rather than commit that much money into a car this age, so I'm selling it instead. KBB private-party value is $11,000–$12,900 in excellent condition — I'm asking $8,000, to reflect the repair needed.

This car is a great opportunity if you're a mechanic, shade-tree DIYer, or flipper who can do the timing component job yourselves. Then either drive a great SUV for a fraction of its value or turn a profit reselling it once it's fixed. Outside of this one issue, the car is in genuinely excellent condition for its age/mileage.

Condition: Aside from the timing issue, runs and drives perfectly. Even now it doesn't sound like the timing components are off at all. It idles smooth and quiet and it does drive. I've kept it parked since seeing the dealership though to avoid further damage. This week I put in a brand new battery and it started right up. Body, interior, and mechanicals are otherwise in pristine shape for a 2018 with this mileage.
