We hosted an event at Old Car Heaven in Birmingham, ALabama based on the actual venue. I could not have designed a better venue, in fact after looking at over 20 other places in Birmingham, Old Car Heaven rose to the very top!
However, my glee turned to careful optimism once I began dealing with the even manager Jeff. He immediately began our relationship by scoffing at our ideas for the OUR event, insinuating that he has been doing this for 30 years, and he is the boss, not the paying customer. This went on for the two months we were planning the event. It seemed like he was going out of his way to let us have our event there.
We pleaded with him for stage arrangement, which was refused. We agreed upon certain drink prices, and literally at the start of the event he informed us that he went up on price! ( after we marketed the agreed upon prices!). We begged him for 12- 15 bartenders that we would pay for ( $6/ hr per bartender) and we only had seven bartenders working our event ( wait time for drinks was between 20- 45 minutes!!!). The other complaint from our guests at the party ( Facebook is wonderful, I asked all of our invited guests for feedback and they gave it-- drink lines were too long and the bartenders did not know how to make drinks! We had people leave after the first drink because they stood in line for 45 minutes for the second one!! Why would anyone want to pay $20 cover at the door to receive poor service???
Be very aware of Old Car Heaven. The venue looks great but the staff will decimate your event. If you value your event, go elsewhere!
